ODISHA NEW:

Complaints of fraudulent withdrawal of money from ATMs continue to pour in at Malkangiri. The police on Monday received a fresh complaint from one State Bank of India customers here.

Nabina Chandra Suna, a retired employee of Malkangiri Town, lost Rs 1, 00000 in a three phase fraudulent transaction. Suna said the money was withdrawn on January 10 and 11 from an ATM counter in Delhi. He was shocked to find a balance of Rs 42,000 in his account on Monday when he checked the balance with the SBI ATM Counter here.

While, Rs.80, 000 was withdrawn fraudulently in two phases on January 10, Rs.20, 000 has been withdrawn from his SBI account on the next day , Suna told. Most surprisingly, how Rs.80,000 was withdrawn in a day against the maximum withdrawal limits of Rs.40,000. All the benefits were deposited with Suna’s SBI account here after his retirement way back in 2006, sources said.

Though earlier 20 SBI customers have been the victims of ATM fraud here, Suna is said to be first ever customer who has lost such a huge amount in a fraudulent transaction. Mean while, the victim has threatened to commit suicide if he doesn’t get back his money. How I can manage the family now, Suna told in a choked voice to the media persons here.

Till date, 20 account holders of the State Bank of Malkangiri have reported loss of money without their knowledge. With fraudulent transactions are on rise, it seems that a racket outside the state is doing all illegal transactions with feed backs from some local mischief mongers having a share in the transaction, sources said. As ATM fraud has become a routine affair, the SBI customers here do not feel safe to deposit their money with the bank apprehending fraudulent transaction.
