ODISHA NEWS/BHUBANESWAR:

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik meets the family members of the abducted Laxmipur MLA Jhina Hikaka. He assured them that the Government would take all possible steps to secure his release from the clutches of the Maoists. The Chief Minister today went to the house of the MLA at Laxmipur during his Koraput visit. The MLA was kidnapped by Maoists on March 23.

The Chief Minister’s visit to Koraput assumed significance at a time when the rival insurgent group, which has abducted Hikaka, has asked the Government to fulfill their demands, particularly release of 30 prisoners, including the dreaded Ghasi, immediately and threatened that failing this the fate of the MLA would be decided in a praja court.

During the meeting, Patnaik also discussed various development issues and problems of the area and later went to Laxmipur to meet the family members of the abducted MLA, said Home Secretary UN Behera.

However, Hikaka’s wife Kaushalya during the meeting said it had been 21 days and there was no news of her husband since his abduction. She appealed to the Chief Minister to take steps to ensure safe release of her husband from the Maoists’ custody.
