UNION MINISTER GULAM NAVI AZAD VISITS ODISHA 06/05/2012

“I have traveled to many places in India and abroad and come in interaction with many educational and health institutes, but I have never seen an institute like Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), where 16,500 tribal students get education and all necessities of life free of cost”, said Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Hon’ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. Shri Azad was on a visit to KISS on 5th May 2012 along with Shri Jagdish Tytler, Former Union Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs. During his visit to Bhubaneswar Azad spent 2 hour in visiting KIIT, KIMS and KISS. Showering lavish praise on Dr. Samanta, Shri Azad said that if he had applied his mind for his self interest, he would have been a billionaire already, he added.


Shri Azad, who is also National President of Gandhi Global Family (GGF), unveiled a statue of Gandhiji on behalf of Gandhi Global Family at KISS campus. It is not difficult for any visitor to KISS to know that individuals like Dr. Samanta are very rare in society, he said. Dr. Samant has fulfilled the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi through, he remarked. Students of KISS should draw inspiration from him as a role model, Shri Azad added. He also proposed a Mahasammelani at KISS campus on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti this year.


Informing about National Rural Health Mission, the Union Health Minister said that Government is providing iron and folic tablets to all 13 crore school going students from age 9 to 18. The drop out girls can also get these medicines through ASHA, he informed.


Welcoming the guests to KISS campus, Dr. Samanta said that the country is fortunate to have a leader like Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is a true follower of Gandhiji.

Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will today attend a function at Utkal University. On Sunday Azad will review the progress of AIIMS-Bhubanswar and meet state Health Minster Prasana Achrya.

On the other hand Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh will today attend a function at IIT-Bhubaneswar. On Sunday he will visit Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.
Among others, Dr. P. K. Patasani, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Bhubaneswar and Dr. P. K. Routray, CEO, KISS were present.
