The State Government on Thursday appointed, 1987 batch IPS officer, Sunil Kumar Roy, as the new Police Commissioner for the twin city Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. He would succeed Bijoy Sharma who has now been posted as Additional Director General of Crime Branch.

Roy is the third Commissioner of Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.

Apart from Roy, the Chief of CID, Crime Branch, Abhay, an officer in the rank of the Additional Director General (ADG), has been now been given the responsibility of law and order. Surendra Panwar, a 1987 batch IPS officer, has been posted as the Director of Vigilance.

The 1987 batch of IPS Gopabandhu Mallick has been appointed as Additional DG, Human Rights Protection Cell, while 1998 batch IPS Satyajit Mohanty is transferred as Chairman and Managing Director of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporaion.

Similarly with an attempt to strengthen its anti-Naxal wing, the State has revamped its anti-Maoist operation team. Inspector General of Police incharge of intelligence and operation Y B Khurania has been shifted and he swapped place with IG (Training) Arun Kumar Sarangi. IG of intelligence Arun Kumar Roy has been assigned the responsibility of central range and DIG (SIW) and Sanjeev Kumar Panda was given the post of DIG at the police headquarters.

Present DIG, south-western range, Soumyendra Priyadarshi has been appointed DIG (Operation). Former SP of Naxal-hit districts of Malkangiri and Jajpur Dhirendra S Kuttey has been appointed DIG, SIW, and former Malkangiri SP, Debadutta Singh has been posted as DIG, Southern Range.
