Odia IFS Dr. Amarendra Khatua appointed as Ambassador to Argentina. Sources said he likely to join in new assignment from July 2012. Recently government of India appointed Dr. Khatua as special envoy to South Sudan and Sudan to broker peace between the two nations. He is currently working as an additional secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.


Dr. Amarendra Khatua is a carrier diplomat. He did his graduation from Delhi University in 1978. He is a poet and has written several poems in Odia. Dr. Amarendra Khatua joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1981. He has worked as a Commercial Counsellor in Trade & Economic Positions in Spain, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Mexico and USA.


He has served as India’s Ambassador to Cote D’Ivoire and concurrently as Ambassador to Guinea and Liberia and as High Commissioner to Sierra Leone. He has also served in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Planning Commission and Ministry of Industry. He has been the Director (Finance), Ministry of External Affairs and worked in Finance Division, Northern Division, Latin America Division in the Ministry of External Affairs. India in the last week of March 2012 appointed Amarendra Khatua as its special envoy to South Sudan and Sudan to broker peace between the two countries. This was done with the objective of strengthening India’s pursuit of oil and other hydrocarbon resources in Africa.
