The CPI-M extremists on Tuesday kidnapped a police sub-inspector from the Nuapada district and later shot him dead. The ASI was kidnapped while going to CRPF camp near Lodra.

Reports said that Assistant Sub-Inspector Kruparam Mahi’s bullet-ridden body has been recovered by the local police. Manjhi was kidnapped by the Maoists while he was on his way to a local market around 11 am today. While Majhi was taken into the custody of a group of more than 10 Maoists, they set free constable Dev Narayan Sahu, who was accompanying Kruparam. Majhi was posted at the Dharmbanda outpost in the Nuapada district.

Shortly after his kidnapping, the local administration officials rushed to the spot to assess the situation. However, it is still unclear whether Majhi was taken hostage by the home-grown rebels to secure release of some of their jailed top cadres or he was killed to avenge the recent encounter of their comrades by the local police.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condemns heinous killing of ASI Kruparam Majhi by Maoists. CM Patnaik assures to extend all possible help from Government. CM said that the state government will take strong action against the culprits of this barbaric incident.

Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced Rs 8 lakh as compensation and Rs 10 lakh towards insurance coverage for the family of deceased, special pension and job for at least one member of the deceased family.

It should be noted that abducted police officer Krupa Ram Majhi has been shot dead by suspected Naxals in Nuapada in Odisha. The police recovered Majhi's body from Nuapada. A team of 10 Maoists had abducted the ASI and had let off the constable accompanying him on Tuesday.
