Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday appealed to BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka’s abductors to extend their 5 April deadline and again invited Nachika Linga, the President of Maoist-backed Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) for negotiation with the government to facilitate the safe release of Laxmipur BJD legislator Jhina Hikaka held hostage by the Maoists since March 23.

Patnaik on Tuesday stated in the Assembly that the Government is prepared to hold discussion to release certain members of the CMAS as per the demands of the Maoists.

Patnaik’s statement came hours after Andhra-Odisha-Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) asked the State Government to fulfil its demands including release of jailed rebels latest by 5 April.

Meanwhile, hours later, in another letter the abducted Laxmipur MLA Jhina Hikaka himself had requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to soon release all the innocent tribals incarcerated in jails who have been allegedly framed under fabricated charges by the police.

“Since I am a tribal, steps for my safe release are not being considered seriously,” the letter bearing Hikaka’s name said.

Adding more it said, if quick steps are not taken for his release he would be unable to work for development of his area and if necessary, he will be forced to resign.
