PATIENT CONDITION CRITICAL DUE TO WRONG BLOOD TRANSFUSION 12/01/2012

A woman is undergoing treatment in a serious condition in the district government hospital after she was allegedly given transfusion of a wrong blood group by the technician of the blood bank of the hospital on Monday. Her condition is stated to be critical.

Women ‘s husband is trying to get authorities to investigate the alleged medical negligence that he says caused his wife's condition serious.

Minati Jena of Patapur village of Jajpur district was admitted in the government hospital on Saturday for treatment of anemia. On Monday, she was transfused with O+ blood after the technician of the blood bank tested her blood and reported that her blood group was O+. After taking two bottles of blood of O+ on Sunday and Tuesday her condition started deteriorating for which as per the advice of the doctor her blood was tested outside the hospital and she came to know that her blood group is B positive.

Her condition started deteriorating and it transpired that due to transfusion of mismatched blood she is now battling with life in the bed no- 85 in the hospital, alleged her brother. Bipin Jena the brother of Minati has alleged before the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) that due to gross negligence of the technician of the hospital her sister was transfused with wrong blood .

When contacted Dr Deepak Kumar Prusti the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Jajpur said “ The condition of the patient was serious as she was suffering from anemia for which she was transfused with O + blood as it is a universal blood group. Later , we came to know that she has B+ blood group. If necessary we will provide her B+ blood group. Now the condition of the patient is good. Being a gullible person , the brother of Minati alleged that doctor transfused wrong blood to his sister”.
