MAOISTS TERROR CREATES PANIC AMONG PEOPLE IN MALKANGIRI 13/01/2012
ODISHA NEWS:

Shadow of terror looms large over the three-tier panchayat elections with Maoist posters and banners creating panic in Nakamamudi area under Kudmulgumma block limits on Thursday, the last day for closing of nominations. Red posters have been reportedly found near Nakamamudi GP office on Thursday.

The Maoists have made their intentions to disrupt polls clear by threatening people with dire consequences if they go against their diktats. In a veiled threat, the poster said those ignoring the warning should not hold the outfit responsible.

While the warning has spread panic in the region, an aspiring Samiti member said those engaged in corrupt practices, particularly the Government officials need to fear.

It is learnt that, the outlawed rebels have warned the candidates of different political parties not to enter into poll fray without their prior permission. Many candidates selected by the ultras have already filed nominations for the post of Sarpanch and ward members and samiti members in their strongholds to ensure that they retain their sway over their safe heavens, sources said.

More than 50 Maoist backed candidates have already filed their nomination in Kalimela, Podia, Khairput, Kudmulgumma and Mathili panchyat samiti limits till today, unconfirmed sources said.

It is believed that the rebels are creating terror in the areas where there is a possibility of filing of nomination by the candidates other than their choice.
