ONE MORE SAINIK SCHOOL IN ODISHA IS IN PIPELINE 19/12/2011

Government has given an 'in- principle' approval to a request by three state governments to open new Sainik Schools and has asked them to transfer funds, build basic infrastructure and sign the Memorandum of Agreement, the Defence Ministry told the Rajya Sabha.


In a written reply to a question in the House on Sainik Schools, Defence Minister A K Antony said "proposals have been received from governments of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh for setting up new Sainik Schools in Sambalpur, Sagar and Chitttoor districts respectively."


Home Secretary M S Padhi said that Odisha’s next sainik school will be at Goshala near to Sambalpur. The state government has decided to start the second sainik school. According to Home Secretary The process is going on.
According to Principal of Sainik School Bhubaneswar, Captain K S Noor the government has already identified 100 acres of land for the proposed school near Goshala, SAMBALPUR. Noor also said that Odisha state government would provide the land and Rs 70 crore for infrastructure. The Sainik School Board is in the process of signing MOU with the Odisha government for the school. Captain Noor also included in his speech that” We are hopeful the school will be functional within two years’ time”.

Sainik School Bhubaneswar was set up in February, 1962. It temporarily functioned from Blind School, Bhubaneswar and was finally shifted to the present sprawling campus in August, 1963. During the last 50 years, the school has churned out over 600 officers for Indian defence forces.
