ODISHA CM URGING A STRONG LOKPAL AND TO ESTABLISH THE INSTITUTION OF LOKAYUKTA WITHIN 3 MONTHS IN ODISHA 29/12/2011

After the steps taken by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the Country for a strong Lokpal, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urged to have the Lokpal effective in the State by amending the existing law.

Talking to the mediapersons, Patnaik said, “We are in favour of a strong Lokpal, and will take steps to amend the present law after the panchayat elections for an effective Lokpal at the State level.”

Odisha Government to establish institution of Lokayukta within 3 months. This was announced by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.

Chief Minister announced here that his Government would bring the Lokayukta Bill within next three months in the Budget Session of the State Assembly. On the Lokpal Bill, he said the BJD wanted a strong Lokpal to fight against corruption. Expressing his unhappiness over the amended structure of the Lokpal Bill, Patnaik said the corruption investigation wing should be under the ambit of the Lokpal.
On the allegation by Opposition Congress on land Acquisition for Vedanta University Issue, Patnaik said that a number of pending special reports had so far been cleared in the State Cabinet.


“We will bring rest of the Lokpal’s special reports to the Cabinet shortly and then table them in the Assembly as per procedure,” he added.
Stating that the BJD's stand on the Lokpal Bill had been made clear in the Lok Sabha yesterday, he said that as far as CBI is concerned, the anti-corruption wing of the agency should come under the Lokpal.


Stating that he was very concerned over the health of Anna Hazare, the chief minister hoped early recovery of the Gandhian leader.
