Shame to Democracy

PERSONALLY, I am not supporting the mission of Baba Ramdev, where there is great need of transparency in his own property and assets.

The Wealth Kingdom and five-star Patanjali ashram is not the ashram where Indian culture of spirituality can be well sheltered. Instead of going by feet, he, himself is travelling by not less than a charter plane. This is one aspect of his wealth and richness.

In India and other backward societies, people have blind faith in Babas and other so-called charismatic gurus, who are fully commercialized. June 4 proved to be very unfortunate for Indian Democracy, when innocent people had gathered to protest against corruption, and they faced bullets and tear gas.

It was really another version of Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. Police should have restrained the public by convincing the people to move instead of using violence. If police had order for vacating the Ramleela area, it was the duty of police to give a few hours to people or the mob for vacating the entire Ramlila Maidan. As most of the people were from out of Delhi so arrangement of buses and vans should had been provided during those hours.

It is surprising that still the mission raised by Baba Ramdev is being supported by the people. If you have to eradicate corruption, it is very important to see that who is leading the masses. If a person like Anna Hazare, who himself is living in a room of 8’x8’, and his surviving cost is only four hundred rupees a month that means he is a fit person to lead the masses. But how can person like Ramdev lead the mission of corruption who himself is pretty greedy?

Nowadays saints, Sadhus, Babas, and gurus who have accumulated great money, are getting pretty good place in society. These gurus are charging high fees for training of yoga and meditation. The charges become higher and higher as all depends on seat of priority - nearest to the guru.

Illegal mining in Uttrakand, which is polluting the Ganga, is taking place with the co-operation of Uttarakhand government officials. It is surprising that such genuine causes are being ignored and attention is being given to people like Baba Ramdev.

It is still a sad chapter that a saint like Nigamand, who has sacrificed his life for the sake of river Ganga, dies unnoticed and unsupported. After months of fasting for saving river Ganga, Swami Nigamananda Saraswati died, and all political parties, media and big rich gurus hardly gave any attention and coverage to a real spiritual hero.

The 34-year-old Swami, a member of Matri Sadan, was protesting against the illegal mining that is polluting the river Ganges. The illegal mining is being carried out in good co-operation with the government of Uttarakhand, and its officials and bureaucrats.
