A WOMAN MAOIST IN ODISHA GOT ARRESTED 05/05/2012

A woman Maoist and former Sarapanch of Gobaraghati Gram Panchayat under Kalinganagar police station in Jajpur district allegedly involved in the killing of security men and many crimes was arrested from the dense forest bordering Jajpur and Keonjhar areas on Thursday.
“In a joint combing operation by Jajpur and Keonjhar, police arrested a lady Maoist Sini Sai (50)of village Gobaraghati”, said Aloka Ray the police officer of Jajpur town police station. Sini had been elected once as Sarapanch from Gobaraghati Gram Panchayat in the past .
According to police officials, the arrest of the senior woman Maoist would weaken the foundation of their group in the region. She was involved in the attack on Daitari police station , kidnapping of a police officer Umesh Marandi and other crimes and violence in Jajpur and Keonjhar districts", added the police officer.
Police admitted her in the Jajpur town government hospital for treatment as she was suffering from fever on Thursday. On Friday , she was produced in the court of Sub- divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) at Jajpur town. The court rejected her bail application and remanded her in jail custody.
“We are encouraging Maoists to surrender . A total 113 Maoists, including seven couples have surrendered to Odisha police since 2009. All the surrenders were made in 2009, 2010 and 2011. "Steps were taken to rehabilitate the surrendered Maoists according to the state government's surrender and rehabilitation scheme, 2006.", official sources said.
While the district rehabilitation committees have accepted applications of 95 surrendered Maoists, 11 applications were not entertained. However, Maoists surrendering now would get rehabilitation package as per the provision of Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme - 2012. Under it a Maoist would get assistance up to Rs. 2.5 lakh, besides Rs. 25,000 for marriage .
This apart, an ultra surrendering before the police was also entitled to get Rs. 25,000 for purchase of homestead land, Rs. 45,000 for building a house and Rs. 25,000 more if he/she surrenders with arms. The new scheme has provision of financial assistance of Rs. 2,000 per month for three years for surrendered Maoists and also Rs. 3,000 per annum for education, officer said
