Underwater behavior of Irrawaddy dolphins at Chilika lake will experimented by Japanese Experts 14/03/2012
ODISHA NEWS:
Japanese experts to study underwater behaviour of Irrawaddy dolphins at Chilika lake. It was said by the Chilika Development Authority (CDA) chief Ajit Pattnaik. He said the experts have come as per the CDA’s MoU with the Tokyo University for a long-term study of the behaviour of Irrawaddy dolphins. The Japanese experts would carry out the experiment till March 17.
The Irrawaddy dolphins surface over water for a few seconds for breathing and spend more than 95 per cent of their time underwater. So, their underwater behaviour has to be understood to find out if they are migrating out of the lake to the sea and vice versa, he said, adding that a permanent study station at the mouth region is proposed to be set up.
