HIGHER SECONDARY BOARD EXAMINATION PAPERS GO MISSING : EXAM DELAYED 22/03/2012

The examination committee of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) on Wednesday decided to reschedule the ongoing Matriculation examination following the theft of question papers by some miscreants from Bhajpur-based Bhagabati Bidyapitha near Kakatpur in Puri district.

The committee took the decision after it was established that question papers of English, Third Language, Mathematics, and two papers each of Science and Social Science were found missing from Bhagabati Vidyapeeth of Bajapur in Kakatpur of Puri district.

According to sources, the Centre Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and two other employees of the school, who were responsible for the security of the questions, have now been placed under suspension.

However, the BSE authorities said that examinations for ex-regular and madhyama students would be conducted as per the original schedule. The BSE is hopeful for the commencement of the fresh exams within 20-25 days.

Senior officials of the BSE including, Satyakam Mishra, President of the Board made an on the spot inquiry of the incident and directed a high-level probe into the matter.


The incident has sent shock waves among lakhs of students and parents in the entire State. The fresh exams will start in mid-April. Again, the publication of the results will be delayed, which will create problems for those students who will be appearing various all-India entrance tests.


A total of 5,11,443 students are taking up the examinations in both Regular and Ex-Regular streams this year. Among them, 4,67,000 will be writing in Regular stream, 38, 613 in regular stream and 6, 400 in Madhyama streams in 2, 384 centres across the State. On the first day of the exam as many as 582 students were caught red-handed while resorting to malpractice.
