INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON CHILDREN’S LITERATURE AT RAVENSHAW UNIVERSITY 9/01/2012

The department of English of the Ravenshaw University here would host a two-day international seminar on children’s literature commencing on Monday.

The meet will focus on the politics of children’s literature, and it has been designed to deepen our understanding of the relationship of children’s literature with questions of power, explained Prof Dipti Ranjan Patnaik, who heads the department.

Papers on theoretical perspectives like postcolonial studies, eco-criticism, feminism, Marxism, new historicism and cultural materialism would be presented in the seminar while the delegates would be encouraged to deliberate on the issue of production and reception of children’s literature, he added.

A number of noted scholars are expected to join the seminar. They include, Ellen Handler Spitz from the University of Maryland and Ernest Bond from the Salisbury University, both in the US, well-known Malayalam novelist Paul Zacharia, Sukhbir Singh and Anna Kurian from the Osmania University, Hyderabad, Abhijit Gupta from the Jadhavpur University, Rimli Bhattacharya from the Delhi University, Fakir Mohan Sahoo from the XIMB, Raja Mohanty from the IIT Mumbai, Anto Thomas from the St Thomas’s College, Kerala, noted Odia children’s writer Manindra Mohanty, informed Prof Pattanaik.

On this occasion, the 2012 issue of the prestigious Ravenshaw Journal of Literary and Cultural Studies would be released. The alumni association of the department would also meet on Sunday, he added.
